It took an embarrassingly long time for me to come around to the idea of spending my non-existent unpaid intern money on special vinyl. If you see me in a record store I’m usually rifling through the $3 used bins, where I can satiate my folk needs with Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell records. But Record Store Day (4/19/14) has released its list of 2014 specials and, well, I might have to splurge. Check out the full listing here! And here are my personal selections:
Death Cab For Cutie Featuring Magik*Magik Orchestra
The Cake box set is also on my wish list, although that’s more of a pie-in-the-sky, early-birthday-present sort of selection.
Devo/The Flaming Lips
SIDE BY SIDE SERIES (7″)
Normally, a collection of previously unreleased Green Day songs would pique my interest, but they’re all from Uno! Dos! and Tres!, the last three albums that I’m sadly unfamiliar with. And, based on what I hear, I’m not missing much.
The Julie Ruin (This blog is, after all, named for a Le Tigre song)
BRIGHTSIDE/IN THE PICTURE (7″)
JIGSAW PUZZLE (7″)
THE RIGHTEOUS ONE (12″)
Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes (Daddy-O might like this one, too…)
LIVE AT THE GREEK
MELTDOWN WITH THE RAMONES (10″)
Here’s to vinyl. As Third Man Records says, “Your turntable’s not dead!”
